Familial Memories
“Aerial Reminiscence”
I explored the aerial perspective of our family holidays along the West Australian coast as a place of familial memories. My subject matter for my body of works is sailing aboard our yacht to Rottnest Island and surfing trips Down South from Dunsborough to Gracetown. Having spent so much time on the ocean it inspired me to paint it from a birds-eye view as if we were flying in a plane looking down. Through an elevated camera lens observing the light on the water and whats happening on the surface of the water, and surrounding areas while sailing, anchored in a bay and surfing all in a glimpse of a moment. Exploring the felt experience of familial memories at a point in time, place and space evoking feelings of belonging and comfort which gives a sense of peace and tranquillity. The body of work reflects these experience on the ocean captured in moments which depict familial memories.
